Elon Musk to Step Down as DOGE Chief? Tesla Crisis Sparks Leadership Shake-Up – Latest Updates (March 29, 2025)

Is Musk Done With Washington? Billionaire Signals Exit From DOGE Amid Cost-Cutting Controversy

Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk may be preparing to step down from his role at President Donald Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
In a recent Fox News interview, Musk admitted that he’s “done with cost-cutting,” sparking speculation about his future in the administration. However, he stopped short of confirming whether he would officially resign.

Musk’s Cost-Cutting Mission: A $1 Trillion Target

During the interview with Bret Baier, Musk claimed that DOGE has the potential to slash $1 trillion in federal spending, bringing overall expenditures down to $6 trillion.

“The government is not efficient, and there is a lot of waste and fraud, so we feel confident that a 15% reduction can be done without affecting critical services,” Musk stated.

Musk was appointed special advisor to Trump, leading a cost-cutting initiative that has been highly controversial, particularly among Democrats. While his mission was to streamline government spending, the initiative led to widespread layoffs, drawing backlash from critics.

Tesla in Turmoil: Musk Admits He’s “Stretched Thin”

Beyond his government role, Musk’s own companies are under pressure. Tesla’s stock has plummeted over 5% in the last month, and protests against the EV giant have intensified.

Speaking at Tesla’s Austin headquarters, Musk addressed employee concerns about market instability and public backlash:

“I’m stretched pretty thin. I have like 17 jobs. Sometimes it feels like Armageddon when I watch the news.”

Despite the challenges, Musk reassured employees that Tesla’s future remains strong:

“There are rocky moments, a little bit of stormy weather. But I’m here to tell you—the future is incredibly bright, and we’re going to do things no one has ever dreamed of.”

White House Silent on Musk’s “I’m Done” Statement

Neither President Trump nor the White House have responded to Musk’s “I’m done” comment. With Tesla facing financial hurdles, government layoffs under scrutiny, and Musk admitting to feeling overwhelmed, could he be preparing to shift focus back to his companies?
